Picking out a Christmas tree is one of the most classic Christmas traditions there is. While the time to head to the nearby tree farm or to cut down a near Christmas tree, only comes once around a year. So we should pick the best Christmas tree and also the freshest one. Moreover, there are many places to get a real Christmas trees in case they are not available near us.
1- Alabama: Fish River Trees Christmas Tree Farm
If you can’t get enough of Fish River Trees, you can extend your stay by renting one of their on-site cabins. With visits from Santa, camel and pony rides, and a bounce house, this is guaranteed family fun that’s been going on for over 38 years.
2- Alaska: Minnesota Bob’s
Don’t let the name fool you: Minnesota Bob’s is your Alaskan winter wonderland. There are a variety of pre-cut Christmas trees, which are grown in — you guessed it — Minnesota. It’s one of the last remaining Christmas tree lots around, so don’t miss out on your opportunity to find the best tree for your home.
3- Arizona: MD Trees
Though you can enjoy any day at Mondell Pines, the Special Christmas Family Celebration keeps people coming back for more. You can expect a chat with Santa Claus, a petting zoo, hayrides, face painting, and holiday treats.
4- Arkansas: Motley’s Tree Farm
Little Rock, Arkansas
Foodies will flock to Motley’s Tree Farm, where they have their very own fudge kitchen. Get your hands on candy cane and egg nog fudge at Motley’s Fudge Kitchen (um … yum!), and snack on it as you examine the farm’s Christmas tree selection.
5- California: Crest Ranch Choose and Cut Christmas Tree Farm
Santa Cruz, California
Established 70 years ago, Crest Ranch offers saws, along with free net wrapping and twine when you’re ready to take your tree home. With gorgeous views, you’ll be tempted to pack a picnic or stop for a bite at their snack bar. They’re open on Thanksgiving, so you can get started on Christmas festivities ASAP.
6- Colorado: Covered Bridge Ranch
Picking a tree is just the beginning at Covered Bridge Ranch. Breathtaking views, horseback rides, and countless photo opportunities are available at this beautiful farm. If you want to visit before Santa comes town, you can also go there during the fall to pick up a pumpkin.
7- Connecticut: Jones Family Farms
For 60 years, families have ventured to the Jones Family Farm for the tree of their dreams. After you find yours, stop by their Barnyard Shops for decor, mulled cider, and their “famous” trail mix cookies. For those over the age of 21, you can even take a pitstop to wind down at their winery’s tasting room. This is 400-acre of pure Christmas fun.
8- Delaware: McCarthy Tree Farm
Visitors have made McCarthy Tree Farm part of their annual family tradition because of everything that’s offered here. Christmas music can be heard all around, and there’s even a blacksmith shop with all the handmade wares you may need (or just want) in your home. They even make customized cowboy boots, so there’s a lot happening here.
9- Florida: Santa’s Christmas Tree Forest
Eustis, Florida (Starting November 23)
St. Nick’s Winter Wonderland is a kid’s (or kid-at-heart’s) dream. Complete with horse rides, a zip line, and rubber duck race (among other activities), you’ll never be bored in Santa’s Christmas Tree Forest. Before you get too worn out, don’t forget to cut your very own live tree.
10- Georgia: Brewer’s Christmas Tree-Blueberry Farm
Midway, Georgia (Starting November 29)
Cut your own tree, hop on for a hayride, and try to spot a wild turkey on Brewer’s Christmas Tree-Blueberry Farm. Santa comes around on occasion, probably because of the farm’s homemade jams, jellies, and their hefty supply of cookies.
11- Hawaii: Helemano Farms
Wahiawa, Hawaii (November 29–December 23)
Prepare to say “Mele Kalikimaka” after you locate your Christmas tree at Helemano Farms. These trees are grown on-site, making it a unique, safer option for the Hawaiian environment. Have a pet? Dogs are welcome, as long as you keep them on a leash.
12- Idaho: Rusty Gate Tree Farm
Gather your entire family for the ultimate photo op at Rusty Gate Tree Farm. Bundle up and spend your day walking through this magical spot in Idaho. It’s also named after the family’s beloved Labrador retriever, which we think is downright adorable.
13- Illinois: Richardson Christmas Tree Farm
Spring Grove, Illinois (Starting November 29)
Every day at Richardson Christmas Tree Farm, you can sip on free coffee and cocoa, snack on fresh fudge made on-site, and find a tree. But things get even more interesting over the weekend, when guests enjoy wagon rides, donuts, and homemade kettle corn. The farm also welcomes your dogs, so long as they’re on a leash.
14- Indiana: Dull’s Tree Farm
Thorntown, Indiana (Starting November 29)
You’ll find people smiling and chopping away on any day during the Christmas season at Dull’s Tree Farm, but there’s one date on everyone’s calendar: Newfoundland Day. On December 2, the South Central Newfoundland Club brings these big dogs in to help make your tree picking experience even more special.
15- Iowa: Strautman Tree Farm
Cambridge, Iowa (November 23–December 23)
Strautman Tree Farm offers thousands of trees that they’ll prepare for your trip back home. While you’re looking, don’t pass up the opportunity to visit the holiday gift shop for hot cider, cookies, and more.
16- Kansas: Delp Christmas Tree Farm
St. John, Kansas (Starting November 29)
The choose and cut farm experience is incomplete without a big cup of apple cider and a handful of fresh peanuts, which you can savor while sitting in front of Delp Christmas Tree Farm‘s fireplace. This farm has been running since the ’50s, which makes it a historic destination for your holiday tree.
17- Kentucky: Lover’s Lane Tree Farm
Bowling Green, Kentucky
Though it’s been around for years, Lover’s Lane Tree Farm started a Christmas tree shop just two years ago. With handmade wreaths and all the Christmas music you could ask for, you’ll want to bring your family over to Lover’s Lane.
18- Louisiana: Steele’s Christmas Tree Farm
Angie, Louisiana (Starting November 28)
There are more than 1,000 trees available at Steele’s Christmas Tree Farm, and you can hop aboard for a hayride during the weekends. After shopping, you can keep the holiday spirit alive with some retail therapy at the gift shop.
19- Maine: Balsam Ridge Christmas Tree Farm
Raymond, Maine (Starting November 29)
Head into the forest and determine which tree is the right one for you and your family at Balsam Ridge Christmas Tree Farm. Kids will love hanging out with farm animals and roasting marshmallows at their fire pit, and Santa stops by on December 1 and 2. What will keep you coming back for more is the farm’s maple products, which are available year-round. Don’t leave without picking up some maple butter, maple cream, and of course, maple syrup.
20- Maryland: Pine Valley Farms
Sykesville, Maryland (Starting November 28)
Pine Valley Farms boasts plenty of trees to choose from. You can tag them before Thanksgiving, and have them delivered if you’re in a nearby area. There isn’t a choose and cut option this year, so be sure to select your tree at the farm as soon as possible. And did we mention there’ll be free hot cocoa and cider?
21- Massachusetts: Pakeen Farm
Canton, Massachusetts (Starting November 29)
Pakeen Farm has an incredible selection of Christmas trees, but people cannot stop talking about their homemade cider donuts and hot cider. Come for the tree, which grows for eight years before being sold, and stay for those treats.
22- Michigan: North Star Gardens
Bring your family over to North Star Gardens, where you can watch Christmas movies while sitting on haybales and sipping free hot cocoa or coffee. They even provide a free gift for your kids.
23- Minnesota: Krueger’s Christmas Trees
Lake Elmo, Minnesota (Starting November 23)
Minnesotans won’t just find a plot with trees at Krueger’s Christmas Trees. There’s a full day of adventure ahead, as you and your family can go for a nature walk, warm up by the campfire, say hi to Santa, and more. One of their oldest traditions, however, is making sure each guest receives a Tootsie Roll.
24- Mississippi: Timberhill Christmas Tree Farm
Chatawa, Mississippi (Starting November 28)
Christmas music, time with Santa, and the chance to cut your very own tree are all part of the fun of visiting Timberhill Christmas Tree Farm. With plenty of photo opportunities, you’ll likely snap your seasonal family photo here too.
25- Missouri: Fort Osage Farm White Pine Lodge
Independence, Missouri (Starting November 23)
We’re big fans of what comes with each purchase of a tree at Fort Osage Farm White Pine Lodge. Candy canes, coloring books, hot spiced tea and cocoa are all part of the deal … and they’ll provide the essentials for your tree-cutting experience. With so much beauty here we’re not surprised that it doubles as a wedding venue.
26- Montana: Copenhaver Plantations
Missoula, Montana (November 23–December 16)
Cozy up by the fire, warm up with a cup of hot cocoa, and fill your stomach with homemade cookies at Copenhaver Plantations. Even more, Santa stops by to take photos in this winter wonderland.
27- Nebraska: Pinecrest Tree Farm
Blue Springs, Nebraska
Get into the holiday spirit and pick up your tree, along with handmade wreaths and garlands to display in and around your home. Pinecrest Tree Farm also has rooms for kids (and adults) to craft in, and you can guzzle all the hot apple cider you want.
28- Nevada: McBurney Christmas Tree Farm
Grass Valley, Nevada
McBurney Christmas Tree Farm is one of the coziest places to visit in Nevada this winter. Along with your tree, expect to pick up freshly cut holly, sit by the campfire, and sip on a cup of coffee. Their website shows availability and pricing, so keep checking back for more info prior to your visit.
29- New Hampshire: The Rocks Christmas Tree Farm
Bethlehem, New Hampshire (November 23–December 15)
Guests describe The Rocks Christmas Tree Farm as a real-life version of A Norman Rockwell Christmas. Enjoy roasting marshmallows and hopping along for a horse-drawn wagon ride during your visit. For those looking to extend their time in this winter wonderland, they offer a Christmas Memory Package for a weekend getaway.
30- New Jersey: Shale Hills Farm
Sussex, New Jersey (Starting November 30)
If you’re famished after a day of locating the ultimate Christmas tree at Shale Hills Farm, Mrs. Claus is selling everything from jumbo-size pretzels to freshly brewed cider. Grab your concessions and head over to the Christmas Movie Theater, where you can sit back and watch a classic.
31- New Mexico: Cassidy Farms
Cleveland, New Mexico
Cassidy Farms offers plenty of trees and breathtaking views. Choose and cut your tree, and celebrate by bringing your food to their picnic area afterward.
32- New York: Emmerich Tree Farm
Warwick, New York (Starting November 29)
There’s so much going on at Emmerich Tree Farm, it’s almost impossible to count the number of activities available. From wagon rides to help deliver your tree to food truck vendors selling hot dogs and cider donuts, you’ll be anything but bored here. Before you go, they provide a complimentary handmade wooden ornament for each tree purchased. Oh, and you should definitely consider it for your wedding venue.
33- North Carolina: Cartner Christmas Tree Farm
Newland, North Carolina (Starting November 28)
You can’t miss Cartner’s Choose ‘n Cut, which is decorated with all the Christmas decorations you can imagine. There are trees, wreaths, garland, refreshments, and indoor areas to warm up when the temperature drops.
34- North Dakota: Cashman Nursery and Landscaping
Bismarck, North Dakota
Cashman Nursery and Landscaping has almost every holiday-related plant you can think of (and more). As you snack on cookies and sip hot apple cider, a staff member can design a custom-made wreath.
35- Ohio: Manners Tree Farm
New Lyme, Ohio (Starting November 29)
Cut your own tree with the family at Manners Tree Farm, and then take a ride on a horse-drawn carriage. If you’re still looking for more, there’s a fireplace and music to help you get into the holiday spirit.
36- Oklahoma: Owasso Christmas Tree & Berry Farm
Owasso, Oklahoma (Starting November 17)
Once you’ve determined which tree you’re taking home, celebrate your success with a free cup of hot apple cider in the Owasso Christmas Tree & Berry Farm gift shop. With plenty of Christmas decor inside, you’ll definitely be tempted to bring something home.
37- Oregon: Hamburg 4D Tree Farm
For a limited time only, celebrate Christmas in Oregon at Hamburg 4D Tree Farm. This farm sets itself apart by offering a cup of chili to its visitors (along with the classic cocoa and cider). Kids receive complimentary candy canes and you can decorate an ornament to commemorate your time at the farm. Last year, the sold all of their trees in the first weekend, so get there ASAP!
38- Pennsylvania: Linvilla Orchards Winter Wonderland
Media, Pennsylvania (December 1–23)
Linvilla Orchards might be the closest thing to a real-life winter wonderland. After talking to Santa and crafting up a storm, hop along for a “Caroling Hayride” and sing classic songs as you tour the orchards. They make their own apple cider and rumor has it that you can’t leave without a freshly baked pie.
39- Rhode Island: Henry’s Christmas Tree Farm
Hope, Rhode Island
Henry’s Christmas Tree Farm is so gorgeous that lifestyle experts Kiel James Patrick and Sarah Vickers exchanged their vows among its near-countless Christmas trees back in 2015. Whether your big day involves a wedding or simply picking up your Christmas tree, each guest receives a cup of cider and candy cane upon arrival. Pre-tagging is available in early November, so keep checking their Facebook page for updates.
40- South Carolina: Lebanon Christmas Tree Farm
Ridgeville, South Carolina (Starting November 30)
If you’re in South Carolina, you can BYOS (bring your own saw), or borrow one from the Lebanon Christmas Tree Farm. Kids will love Santa’s Kidz Workshop and the Christmas Barrel Train. Last year, they even hosted their very first scavenger hunt.
41- South Dakota: Riverview Tree Farm
Canton, South Dakota (November 23–December 15)
Befriend Santa and adorable farm animals during your visit to Riverview Tree Farm. For over 20 years, families in South Dakota have gathered together to find their tree and enjoy plenty of holiday treats.
42- Tennessee: Wildwood Christmas Tree Farm
This is a one-stop shop for holiday fun. A massive treehouse, tractor-pulled hay ride wagon, and kids’ craft room are just a few of the things you can expect at Wildwood Christmas Tree Farm. Not to mention, there’s free coffee for you and hot chocolate for the kids.
43- Texas: Spring Creek Growers
Magnolia, Texas (Starting November 23)
Everything is bigger in Texas, and Spring Creek Growers knows it. At this farm, you’ll find a bakery serving treats, barbecue, and of course, hot chocolate. There are activities like fishing, rubber duck races, and a treehouse your kids can explore. If you need accoutrements for your tree, stop by the gift shop for ornaments, tree skirts, and more.
44- Utah: Petersen Family Farm
Riverton, Utah (November 23–December 23)
The Petersen Family Farm has it all: Santa, homemade hot chocolate, and interactive wagon rides. On November 20 and 21, head to the farm for a holiday wreath workshop, one of the many opportunities available this season. And when you go, pick up a bag of their home-grown “Microwavable Popcorn on the Cob” to remember your visit.
45- Vermont: Moffatt’s Tree Farm
Craftsbury, Vermont (Starting November 29)
Moffatt’s Tree Farm has been helping people find their perfect tree for generations. After selecting your tree, stop by the choose and cut shack to pick out a bottle of their homemade syrup and a wreath to hang on your door.
46- Virginia: Reed Island Farm

48- West Virginia: French Creek Christmas Trees
French Creek, West Virginia (Starting November 29)
For over 30 years, French Creek has been sending families home with beautiful Christmas trees. Most visitors head there for their special Santa Event, hosted on the second Saturday of December every year. Kids can bring their letters and spend time with jolly St. Nick.
49- Wisconsin: Hann’s Christmas Tree Farm
Oregon, Wisconsin (November 1–December 24)
As much fun as choosing a tree sounds, we’re most excited about all of the offerings in Hann’s Christmas Tree Farm‘s Christmas store. There are countless items to decorate your home, and you can fill your belly with fresh popcorn and a cup of complimentary hot cider. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be there to say hi to your kids on the three weekends after Thanksgiving.
50- Wyoming: River Bend Nursery and Stone
Family-owned for more than 40 years, River Bend Nursery and Stone has everything you need to prepare your home for the holidays. While you look through the trees and gorgeous poinsettias, you can snack on free popcorn.
